OAK to PDX

We're planning a trip to Washington State. The only potential snafu in that plan is that Chebbles is convinced our plane will crash.

"Hey Chebs, we're going to visit your cousins in Washington!"

"OK, but not on a plane, because the plane will go too fast and too far and will fall under a mountain."

"Uuhhh, how about a train?"

"No, we're taking the bus."

We went back and forth on this subject, and she was adamant that our plane will go too fast and fall down.

She was also convinced that we couldn't take the train.

Because I am only psychic about one thing, unless I've recently undergone major surgery, I have to rely on the psychic powers of Hub-D and Chebbles in this house.

So I checked the Amtrak schedule, and, guess what? You've got to take a bus. There were mudslides along the Oregon coast which have shut down the northbound train for the forseeable future. The only way through is by bus.

But the Amtrak bus takes 13 hours (Greyhound is 15). With a toddler and an infant? No way!

(But points to Chebbles for knowing that the train wasn't an option.)

So we're back to the airplane option. Southwest has never had an accident (knock on wood). Chebbles has said that the plane BACK from Washington isn't a problem, it's the plane THERE that will go under the mountain.

What do I do? Do we NOT visit our cousins because Chebbles continues to take a hard line about the fate of the airplane?

I've started quizzing her about this, but she maintains the same story every day...

I'm inclined to just book this flight and go have fun, as we have so many times before, with our Washington State cousins.

But what if she's... RIGHT?

Shaken Mama- because you really are a great read, and I have fairly little to do these days, I went back and read some very old posts of yours and came across the one about the washcloths aplenty you got off of ebay.(Ebay? I think)
After a little research I realized just how many washclothes I can get and took washcloths right off my registry. THANK YOU! Lovin you and your kids!

Hmm... kinda freaky. How strange to have to think this thru! I have no clue what I'd do... but I sure wouldn't take a 13 hour bus ride! Does Chebbles have an opinion on what airport you leave from? The day that you leave? Perhaps this would impact her perceptions... maybe you could say- hey i was wondering if such and such would make a difference.. how bout you get back to me chebbles. That works on N sometimes, that freedom to think it thru on his own.
BTW- my laptop died on Friday morning. I'm offline! This is *mad*! I have to get online where I can...

Or you know those psychic premonitions where one detail is not literal?? Maybe it's a mountain-shaped thundercloud that will cause your plane to quickly, but safely, descend in altitude for a bit.

Why not drive? It probably won't take all that long, and you can visit Mt. Shasta along the way. I think that it's too freaky that somehow she knew about the train not being an option . . .

Well, if the worst comes to pass, you can take comfort in the knowledge that because you publicly documented Chebbles' premonition on your blog, you have a good chance of being immortalized in an urban legend.

Seriously, man, I would drive. Flying under a mountain is never a good thing.

An infant and a toddler on a Greyhound bus for 15 hours? What could POSSIBLY go wrong?

I asked Chebbles again today, using Marzkim's suggestion of an alternate day, and she held firm that we would need to take the bus. Damn!

And Vicky, ask Stella why driving isn't such a great idea. That was the amazing "one-glove-each" adventure we undertook, like idiots.

Ha ha ha! Not to mention that SOMEONE did a disappearing act with the wine!

OK, this is yet another sign that she is MY child. She can borrow my valium for the flight ...

Meanwhile, maybe it's time for one of those special caramels that Hallie used to get on road trips.

My opinion is that you skip the trip this season, and that will give you a few more days at home to blog about more interesting stuff. ;)

Hey - I'm not giving up on the driving yet! But I have a another "great" suggestion - take Stella along again for companionship. It's April, so the weather should be okay. I can lend some hats and gloves if needed.

Is it the day or the plane that is getting Miss Chebbles? Myles keeps saying he does not want to go to Taiwan now and get Ellen because we are going to crash into the water. I am going to have to check into those bus/boat thingies now.

Hmmm...I don't know...I'm inclined to trust the Chebs.

I can't decide!! So, who's going to drive to Washington with me? It's ten and a half hours of pure Chebblicious FUN!
