Bring on the music

Chebbles' third birthday is coming up. It's less than four months away! So of course her party consumes most of my late-night musings, when Baby V is asleep against my shoulder and I can't move.

I'm going to do a music theme this year. My goal is to hire a singer/guitar-playing person to belt out some tunes, so the toddlers (and maybe grown-ups, if I can get them drunk) can dance.

This way, I'll also be able to avoid the branded invitations -- if it were up to Chebbles, we'd have an Angelina-Ballerina-Disney-Princess party, so I'm not letting her pick the theme. It's music.

I have a bunch of fantasies associated with this party. I dream of finding a bulk discount on little ukeleles as a party favor. I dream of setting us craft tables, where kids can make their own rainsticks (or whatever those things are called) and drums and maracas.

I wonder if I should find a sub-theme, like Music in the Jungle or Music of "South Pacific" or Dancing Music.

I've got to get cracking, though, because this thing is coming up FAST. Oh, and you guys are totally invited.

PS: Do you KNOW (and I know you do) how awesome it is to be obsessed over planning a birthday party rather than worrying about getting/staying pregnant? It's a pleasant intermission, while I'm not ovulating.

Bring on the party I say!!

My own ideas are so lame in comparison--J turns three next month and we're doing a plain ole' princess and pirate party (what? we had to throw the pirates in there to cover the boy guests).

Ukeleles would be cool, but the rainsticks, now those would seriously top the list of best take home/"goody bag" item ever.

I want to go to your party, Dee, dressed as a Princess Pirate! That's kind of Keira Knightly.

Well, go ahead and plan big because GR will be there to oversee the craft table, which, by the way, I think is a fabulous idea. Whenever there is a craft table, people cluster around and the party becomes festive immediately. I just went to a celebration for women at Exeter U-U and there was construction paper, yarn, paper punchers and magic markers for everyone to make their own name tags--fun!

I'm excited! We can get down to the details when I visit next month.
