Can I be you?

Some lady stopped her car at Trader Joe's to admonish me about having Chebbles out in the parking lot. Chebbles was standing still, one foot from the back of the car as she waited for me to put her in her car seat. I still can't figure out what was pissing her off so much, and I ignored her at the time.

About one second after she drove her car away, I found myself thinking, man, I wish I were Jbeeky, because I would have had the proper, and instantaneous response.

what is it with idiots in parking lots, huh? Last weekend in Boston I was walking through the parking lot of a grocery store to, you know, go into the grocery store and I was carrying Z. About halfway across the parking lot (I had parked a ways away, and across a little street thing that was in the parking lot, so not a real street and not with any crosswalks) a guy in an SUV pulled up and started yelling at me: "If I hadn't seen you, I would have hit you! You shouldn't be walking around with a baby like that! You should use the crosswalk! Well, don't you have anything to say?" I was absolutely flabbergasted, but I managed to reply that I was amazed by how cranky people in Massachusetts are. (For anyone else reading this, I am from Massachusetts, so I felt like I could say this.) Come on a-hole! What the heck? Why do people feel the need to try to parent our kids? I would have just wanted to haul off and hit that woman if I had been at Trader Joes with you. And I would have done it for you too.

I always have the exact right thing to say... about 5 minutes after the opportunity has passed. But then if the exact scenario ever happens again... I am READY!

Sad to say, I usually let forth a barage of insults directed at them, thier family, neighbors, assembly members and ice cream preference. Usually on the ride home, while my son listens intently and takes notes.
