I just want time to stop and for Baby V and me to go to an island somewhere by ourselves, and we'll live on coconuts and mangos and our love for each other.

It seems a shame that she gets such a small slice of my day, coming last because she's the least squeaky wheel in the joint. I know she loves her sister and benefits in some ways from being dragged all over creation with our family.

But still, I wonder what it would be like if we could be isolated together. I would be able to stare at her golden eyelashes all day long. It really is possible that they are spun from actual gold. And I could watch the little flecks begin to develop in her irises. And her toes! Those long, masterful creations.

Well, until she starts sleeping in her crib, we have our nights together. She lays on my arm and we read. Right now we're reading a well-written, tragic story called "The Secret River" by Kate Grenville. She likes it because it's got a lot of babies in it. Never mind the dessication of the Aborigial culture. She's so one-track minded, this baby.

What a great start to my day to see this picture of the winner of the 2008 Miss Gorgeous Baby USA contest. And, hey, I'll take the Chebs anytime you and Baby V. want to run away to your island. We're going to ride our bikes and feed the ducks!

The other day I felt sad thinking about when we have our second baby, how I won't be able to solely devote myself to Chase anymore, and I won't ever get as much one-on-one time with a new baby as I had with Chase. But reading about your snuggle time with Baby V reminds me that you just find a way.

And oh my gosh, she gets freaking cuter by the second. You guys make beautiful babies, that's for sure.

She is gorgeous! Wow, that smile must just melt your heart! I was thinking the same thing, what little time you must have with a second child compared to your first....thank goodness for those nights. I am sure she appreciates them.

I got so fired up about the octopus and general cuteness that I forgot to leave my original comment, which is as follows.

I totally hear you about the least squeaky wheel getting the short end of the mama time stick. I really have to make sure Toodie gets her fair share of attention since she's the only one of my kids a) unable to move around by herself (just yet), and b) seemingly content to examine her own fist for extended periods of time. It's all too easy to park her..

I'm so glad you guys concur with my judgement that Baby V is breaking all records of baby cuteness in the Bay Area. It really is ridiculous. And I don't get to stare at her NEARLY as long as she ought to be stared at.
