Salvation Army

Today, Chebbles and I went to the Salvation Army's 50% off sale and we went nuts!

It was easy to say "yes" to all of the things she coveted. The big throw pillow with a hundred beads dangling off of it? Yes! The pink shirt covered in rhinestones? Sure! The beat-up old jewelry box, the glass ring holder and a pile of books? Absolutely.

It all cost exactly $6.75, total. Most of that was the pillow, which is silk and quite glamorous.

I think this is the beginning of a thrifting career for us. No sales tax for some reason and the place was the Land of Yes. It was such a great Chebbles-n-Mama adventure -- and it dovetailed nicely with my anti-consumerism bent right now.

Tomorrow, there is a used kids stuff sale going on close to our house. Why not? We've still got $3.25 in our Fun Money budget for the week.

That is the same reason I love yard sales with my son. I tell him he can get all the books he wants. Good for you!

Ah, I think you buried the lead here ... another clear indicator that she is my daughter??

Yes yes yes, Stella, it's further proof. That's pretty much buried in every post here, wouldn't you say?

And Jbeeky, I was definitely inspired by the stories of your thriftiness in our endeavors.

Hey---did you know that you can buy used cloth diapers? The ones I showed you today? Used. $9 each. No tax. www.diaperswappers.com

Think what you will---they were in perfect condition.

Buying used is a great way to figure out what you want. And if you don't like it--sell it for close to what you paid. I figure I am CDing this babe for little money if I can just stick to the Happy Heinies due to the resell value. It's crazy. I don't know why more people don't do it. Poo washes. It washes really well...And if your washer has a sanitize cycle, you're golden.
