Also keeping us awake is Baby C's gas. Poor gal had an attack of it last night from about 1am-6am, when a cascade of farts finally relieved the whole household from the pain and agony of her tiny guts.
I don't think it's my drinking milk, although I've stopped all dairy, just in case. Does anyone know how the infant digestive system works? I mean, can things that didn't bother her during her first week make it miserable the next week? Are some babies just gassy no matter what their mothers eat? Or did I add something new to my diet that I'm forgetting?
Anyway, she's still an angel, and she doesn't cry, just grunts and feels a little sad. Baby C, you darlin'.

My experience is yes, there are lots of things that start after the first week. They actually wake up and start having "issues" (i.e. gas). I believe the digestive system is the last thing to form, so if she was early, she may still be developing a bit. Hope the gas subsides soon! She is such a cute baby :) Just like the other 2!
The newborn GI system is immature...Honeydew had all kinds of gas, poo, grunting, etc. As long as she wanted to eat and was growing/ gaining, I didn't worry. I have heard mom's diet...dairy/ wheat can have an effect. My poor child didn't get that benefit because of my inability to control my appetite after giving birth.
My dr just told me that the digestive system gets settled at 9 mos. We're dealing with gas and spit up around here too. Not 5-hr middle of the night bad, just messy. But 9 MONTHS?? We dealt with a bit of mess with E too, I'm thinking after solids it might have helped. I haven't had the will power to do anything to my diet.
She's sooooo pretty!
That is just the cutest picture ever, welcome the new Fancy Nancy!
Hi, Mama! Baby O had a similar situation, starting in the second week and lasting until about six to eight weeks, not every night, but often. What really seemed to help her was nursing only on one side for a few hours, then switching to the other side. I think it's called block nursing. It ensures that the baby gets lots of hind milk and not too much sugary, harder-to-digest foremilk. Or something. It didn't cure her completely, but did seem to ease her farty pain.
